Google states that the chances of three sets of fraternal twins are 1:500,000.  I looked this up before I considered another pregnancy.  Surely I’m not that lucky. Besides, my first pregnancy was twins, the second a singleton, the last pregnancy was twins, and by that logical pattern I was due for another singleton.  Despite strong first trimester symptoms like extreme fatigue, nausea, and vomiting, I held out hope that it would be “just one”.  Not that one baby is easy by any means; it’s just easier than two.  Because of my history, my doctor pushed orders for an early ultrasound through.  At just 7 weeks pregnant, this is what I saw:

People often ask me what my reaction was.  I uttered two little words, one being an expletive.  Not because I’m unappreciative of these miracles or would have it any other way, but because I know exactly what I’m in for.  Twin pregnancy is difficult on the body and considered high risk.  Newborn twins are sleep-stealing-nonstop-eating-poo factories.  Toddler twins and beyond vary from best friends to worst enemies, and the fighting rarely stops.  Each developmental stage presents additional challenges with twins.  But hey, the third time is a charm?
